Deacon Nomination Form

Prayerfully consider nominating faithful brothers in Christ to serve as deacons at FBC Benbrook.

FBC Benbrook is receiving nominations for men to serve as deacons in the coming year.

This is an important responsibility of our church family, and we ask you to prayerfully consider those among us who demonstrate the biblical character, spiritual maturity, and servant's heart necessary for this ministry.

Nominations may only be submitted by members of FBC. Nominations may be made using the form below or online through the Member Resources page of our church website, fbcbenbrook.org.

What Is a Deacon?

At FBC Benbrook, being a deacon is a four-year calling to service, not a position of authority.

The word deacon comes from the Greek word for servant. Our deacons have two primary responsibilities: caring for widows and orphans and supporting the ministry of our pastoral staff. They serve by meeting practical needs, encouraging unity, and helping ensure that members of our church family are not overlooked.

The Biblical Pattern — Acts 6:1–7

As the early church grew, some widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. The apostles instructed the congregation to select seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, to address these needs. This allowed the apostles to remain devoted to prayer and the ministry of God's Word.

James 1:27 further reminds us that caring for widows and orphans is an important expression of genuine Christian faith.

Biblical Qualifications — 1 Timothy 3

Scripture teaches that those who serve as deacons should demonstrate:

  • Respectable character: Dignified and worthy of respect.
  • Integrity: Honest in speech, trustworthy, and free from dishonest financial motives.
  • Self-control: Not given to excessive drinking or other destructive habits.
  • Hospitable: Welcoming to others with warmth and generosity, demonstrating a willingness to care for those in need.
  • Spiritual maturity: Holding firmly to the faith with a clear conscience.
  • Proven faithfulness: Tested and found above reproach.
  • Faithfulness at home: Faithful in marriage and managing their children and households well.

We are not looking for men of position or prominence, but for men who already demonstrate Christlike character and a genuine willingness to serve others.
