Mark and Lisa Patenaude

Missionaries to Taiwan
Raised in Fort Worth, TX, Mark and Lisa left for northern Thailand in February 1996 when their two older children were 2 and 4 years old. With a degree in Agronomy from Tarleton State University, they were originally sent as agricultural missionaries through the International Service Corps of the IMB. For two years they managed a demonstration farm in northern Thailand which helped hillside farmers with issues like soil erosion. They returned to Fort Worth to take seminary classes at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Then Mark and Lisa were appointed as Career Missionaries for the IMB and returned to do Community Development work for the demonstration farm and then in community among the Northern Thai people group. In their rural setting Lisa homeschooled her oldest son, Lucius, and daughter, Adrian, and did community evangelism and discipleship.
In 2006 David Andrew (Andy) from Bangkok joined their family at 4 years of age. He became a very dynamic part of their family ministry. Then in 2008 their family moved from the rice paddy to the "county-seat" of their country province. In town they began to partner with some existing churches, Presbyterian church plants from almost 80 years ago. They also started receiving volunteers from partnering churches in Mississippi who helped them share the Gospel through community service projects including children’s programs, English teaching, agriculture training, business consulting, radio broadcasts, and home visits. Working directly with Northern Thai churches, both Baptist and others, they organized evangelistic events, developed training materials, and led seminars on evangelism, discipleship, and church planting.
PC100184Most recently, Mark and Lisa have been blessed by working with and training Thai Baptist partners, Somchai and Ning, who are continuing the church planting work. Mark and Lisa and their family will have served with the IMB for a total of 23 years when they retire in September 2019. Mark and Lisa are thankful for the privilege to serve the Lord, the Northern Thai people and the Southern Baptist Convention through the IMB. It is amazing to see God at work through His church to reach the nations and expand His kingdom. They are thankful for FBC Benbrook and their support of missions and their prayers for the lost! They intend to remain engaged in the Northern Thai ministry through prayer and short term trips. They would love to share about how God is at work in Thailand and about opportunities to be involved in that work. Please let them know how they can serve you! They would love to visit your Sunday school class or small group. You are also welcome to schedule a “tea time” with them at the Mission Home.
Throughout their service, Mark and Lisa have worked to spread the Gospel among the Northern Thai people group. With a population of 6.5 million and only 150,000 Christians, the Northern Thai people remain unreached with little access to the Gospel. Please pray for Somchai and Ning as they share the Gospel in their neighborhood and disciple new believers. Pray for the Gospel to be established among the Northern Thai people “not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction. “ 1 Thessalonians 1:5
